Before the grand opening of our official website, I will update this site as much as possible and hope to start the year off fresh. The New Jersey Devils would like to activate defenceman Richard Matvichuk from the injured reserve, however in order to do so the Devils will need to make more room under the salary cap.
Devils Newark Arena to be Named
December 22, 2006Prudential Financial has apparently agreed to pay about $5 million dollars a year for the naming rights of the Devils new arena set to open for the 2007-2008 season. If the deal is worked out the $365 million dollar state-of-the-art arena will be named the Prudential Center. The deal could be for as long as 20 years. For those that don’t know, Prudential is an insurance and financial services company who were said to be in the lead for the naming rights as soon as the arena was announced, as they have their headquarters only a few blocks down the street from the building site. If the deal is signed (according to the principal owner Jeff Vanderbeek they are “very close”) the 18,000 seater will become known as the “Prudential Center” and will no longer be known as ”The Newark Arena”. An early nickname for this arena already spreading is “The Rock” as Prudential’s logo and ad campaigns feature a rock.
Devils Try to Snap Slide Tonight
November 28, 2006The Devils are looking to avoid their fourth straight regulation loss tonight @ 10:00 against the Los Angeles Kings (8-13-4). The Devils haven’t lost 4 straight in the regular season since 2001, truly a great run. Even during the little slide, the Devils are playing pretty good hockey. They are still 6-4-0 in their past ten games. If the Devils win tonight, they will be guaranteed a record over .500 for the month of November. Marty will need some offensive support if the Devils want to win this game. This Saturday he stopped 25 of the 26 shots faced in a 2-0 loss to San Jose. The Sharks added an empty netter to round things off. It starts with the powerplay where the Devils have been 1-for-19 so far on this trip. On the Kings side of things, Garon has been playing much better than Cloutier, especially lately, and rumour has it that Cloutier and his $6.2 M contract aren’t sitting too well with the team. Look for Garon to get the start. Should be a good game, check it out if you can.
Devils Eek by Sens
November 18, 2006Jamie Langenbrunner had two goals and an assist in an exciting and close 3-2 Devils win over the Ottawa Senators tonight. Travis Zajac had a career night by assisting on all three Devils goals. Zach Parise also had two assists to help the cause. Chris Neil and Daniel Afredsson both scored in the third period after the Devils took a 3-0 lead in the first two periods to make it 3-2, but that’s as close as they would get. Ray Emery stopped 20 shots in the loss and Martin Brodeur stopped 15 of the 17 Senators shots. Also to note, there was a heavyweight battle about three minutes in between the Devils Cam Janssen and the Senators Brian McGratton. McGratton won it after a pretty long fight This was the first time the teams have met since the Senators blew the Devils out 8-1 on October 21st so the Devils see it as a little revenge. Also to note, Scott Gomez missed his sixth straight game with a groin injury. Final Score New Jersey 3 Ottawa 2.
Dowd signs on with New Jersey
November 2, 2006The New Jersey Devils have signed veteran forward Jim Dowd to a one-year/$450 000 contract on Wednesday. The deal came right after left wing Dan LaCouture cleared waivers, which allowed enough cap room for the Devils to sign Dowd.
Up and Down Season so Far for Brodeur
October 30, 2006After only ten games so far this season you would assume that not much could happen yet, right? Wrong. Well, If your name is Martin Brodeur then that’s the answer.
