Injuries digging deep hole for Leafs

Once again the Toronto Maple Leafs have found themselves battling injuries to key players, and it is beginning to show on the standings. Young star Kyle Wellwood is listed day-to-day, winger Alexei Ponikarovsky is sidelined for the next 3 weeks, forward Darcy Tucker has missed the last few games with a sore foot and could miss a significant amount of time, and defensive forward Mike Peca will miss at least three months with a knee injury. Although it was thought Pecas injury may be a season ending injury, recent reports indicate Peca says he will be back.

All of these injuries have brought a lot of familiar faces to Paul Maurices bench, who coach the AHL’s Marlies last season. The Leafs continue to lose games and are in need of help fast.

Last game the leafs had 7 players from the Toronto Marlies on their roster. Those including Ian White, Alexsander Suglobov, John Pohl, Boyd Devereaux, Ben Ondrus, Brendan Bell, and Kris Newbury. Not mentioning the few that played for the team last year, being Bates Battaglia and J.S Aubin. The Leafs have more farm team players than they do of their regular roster players right now, one would think a trade of some sort should come soon.

After last nights loss to the Ottawa Senators, the Leafs have now won just once in their last six games. And the sad part is this six game stretch was supposed to be an easy part of their schedule.

The Leafs have won 4 of their last 16 games. They better start making some changes soon or else their going to be riding the bottom of the standings for a long time.

I don’t see why the Leafs shouldn’t bring back Jason Allison or even Brian Leetch. It’s safe to say this team is in trouble in almost all areas of the club. Ferguson has been entertaining offers im sure but the team needs to dump some salary in order to find a replacement for any one of the key players injured.

One of the options was to place Tucker on injured reserve but if he were to come back earlier than predicted that could cause some problems on the Leaf team.
